Are about to purchase a new MacBook Pro and I know that 32 GB is better than 16 MB. My question is if it is worth the extra cost for 32 GB?
I use the following “heavy” applications: Unity3d, Illustrator, Photoshop.

Well… I don’t think you go very far even with 32MB… I’d rather go for a 16GB version. The “upgrade” price for a 32GB is far beyond current market prices for memory.
Unity will be the one eating the most RAM, but you’ll manage just fine with 16GB. If you think you’re going to be making a lot of orchestral music you can consider 32GB (and still be short).
Unity eats what it gets. I have 64 gig in my Workstation, when baking light Unity eats it all
640kb is enough.
MacBooks have solid state drives so even virtual memory isn’t that’s slow. I’m perfectly fine waiting for the slow virtual memory once in a while when I have a ton of huge files open at once.
That said, do you have access to a more powerful machine for baking? I’ve been baking my lights on minimal settings but plan to ramp it up before release by borrowing a mega server from work.
I love SSD drives. They are massively faster than old school hard drives. But even the best SSD drives are very slow compared to RAM. If you have a task that needs a lot of RAM, it is best to install a lot of RAM instead of relying on virtual memory.
Ummm… The MacBook Pro has never had a model with lower than 1GB of memory… 32MB would have been nearly a decade earlier…
On current MBPs, memory is not upgradable. It is soldered to the board. Get the max, because you can’t change your mind later.
