Well I’m pretty much done waiting 13 years for the next game. The devs are losers and the community behind the games is a bunch of - well (insert curse word here)
So I’m just gonna do it myself.
zero scripting experience
zero modeling experience
zero game making experience
but the Unity tuts and kb seem to make it look easy.
here goes, just a super basic small area for now, but at least its a starting point for adding more.
Duke3D - Ep1 Level 1 rooftop starting area
PS - be kind its my 1st shot at this, hopefully more 2 come
I tried uploading it but the forum kept rejecting it saying empty file. Oh well
I’ll keep trying to upload it here
You should really post the attachment on this site and not duke4.net, as I don’t have an account there and don’t feel like making one just to check this out. However, I do want to see this because I am a fan of Duke Nukem 3d
I don’t mean to sound critical or damper your enthusiasm, but aren’t there legal concerns for doing this kind of thing as well?
Well seeing as this is his first game, meaning it probably will never be distributed, there is no ‘legal issues’ because it’s for educational purposes.
I can’t say much about the game as there’s no screenshots yet, so keep tryin to get that up!
With the new developments with Duke Nukem Forever to be released Feb 1 2011 and all new Duke Nukem based games are under Gearbox software, the owners of the olders games (3Drealms) has relaxed its stance on re-coding the games. There is already one Duke Nukem 3D - redux project in the works (using Unreal). I however have seen Unity perform so much with a lower learning curve, lower sys req and so many features that I can’t give up on making a Duke Nukem based game under Unity. I have been busy converting the models from Duke3d to a format Unity can import (the old ones are MD3. I should be done in the next few weeks and can get started on making some levels.
Warning - I may end up begging/pleading for scripting help.
