I was wondering if it is possible to create a 2.5D (prerendered 2D background images with 3D real time characters/objects) game with Unity? → For example http://www.gamestar.de/index.cfm?pid=6&pk=52876&fk=1835065
I guess I would have to use a billboard for the image and then have hidden simplified geometry of the scene (a mesh of the room i.e.) for collision detection.
I would also like to use per pixel light for the characters and real time shadows.
Would it be possible to draw the shadows on top of the background image (using the hidden geometry)?
It must be possible somehow, because the “Geheimakte” adventures use this kind of technology.
Could anybody please help me here?
I would even pay for a small example scene.
