Just updated from 2.6 to 4.1, big leap I know but for colaboration purposes I thought to keep up to date.
Then the problems started. The old project had a random number variable, which was the first problem. Has to be in the main something.
But I fixed that.
The biggest problem, half my game objects are missing elements/scripts. And I couldn’t find the Standard Assets folder in the project.
Now maybe it was kept away for some reasons but I always use the Smooth Follow and MouseLook scripts, and various other stuff.
And those are all gone. I can go over every single game object and try and find out where they put it in 4.1. Or try to import the assets from old projects which still have the Standard Assets folder.
And all colliders who were triggers are unchecked and normal colliders again. Now there are probably more things that are incompatible with the newer version but it’s a bit to much to all check out since I’m in the middle of a project. So for the time being I’ll be working in 3.0 which still has the Standard Assets browser and it looks like the game works as it should now.
Hopefully it will not have the problem with unity players having twice the size etc.
The standard assets are not gone, they are in the Assets → Import Package menu. You can expect that if you wait 3.5 years between updates in a fast-moving field like 3D engines, there will of course be many changes, and it’s kind of impressive that 2.6 projects load in 4.1 at all.
I must say, the animations section have gotten a whole lot worse.
You have to add an animation component and asign all of the animations.
In the older Unity if you have assigned the keyframes to the names of the anims
it would automatically use that if you put that object in the scene.
Instead of letting Unity upgrade your project, have you tried to make a package with your project and just import that package in a new 4.1 project ? Maybe you will get better results this way ?
