2018 cycle terrain engine update.

Hi all,

Since we’re not allowed to ask about upcoming features in betas thread (its for feedback) and I couldn’t find a clear consensus:

Does anyone know if the revised terrain engine is due in 2018.3, or sometime afterward? As best I can tell the roadmap says it’s planned but not started - is that a fair assessment based on what you’ve all heard?

The BotD demo was apparently using a “mesh terrain as an interim measure”, although I can’t find the threat which mentioned it anymore.

2018.3 seems to be due sometime between now and September-ish based on their LTS roadmap.

Anyone have any insight?

Cheers.

It was announced during GDC 2018 that it was coming with Unity 2018.2. I’ve linked the video at the appropriate section.

Saw it said recently somewhere that it was delayed to 2018.3 or later

Hmm, missed that for some reason. So as I gather it’s been delayed, is that correct?

It has been delayed, correct and there is now no specific date for it.

Delayed until 2019 nah probably 2020, won’t support smooth voxels, probably still need an asset for doing terrain shader holes and another asset manager to have large world tile stitching etc etc

If its anything like the input preview it may have an preview this year but be so far from usable for another 2years 3years?
