2019.3.0f3 Mac Catalina Skin Mesh Renderer Flickering

2019.3.0f3 Mac Catalina Skin Mesh Renderer Flickering

Reproductions steps:

  • Make sure Game view and Scene view are both viewable at the same time.
  • Add a character or an object that makes use of the skin mesh renderer.
  • Either duplicate this object or just add another object, such as a cube.
  • Select the second object or the cube, and using the gizmo, move the object around, the skin mesh renderer object will start to flicker.
  • If you hide the Game view, either by full-screen view of the Scene view or just make sure the Game view is not visible, and move the object in step 4, the flickering will not occur.

My Hardware:
I am using the following hardware:
Macbook Pro 16 2019
32GB Ram
2.4 Ghz i9 8 Core
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB
macOS Catalina 10.15.2

Notes:
I have tested this both on the main screen as well as on a secondary screen, with the results being the same. This seems to be reliant on having the Game view visible while also having something selected for movement in the Scene view. I am able to work past this issue to a certain extent by hiding my Game view while working in the Scene view, though this is not optimal. I even thought this was an artifact of moving to the Universal Render Pipeline, but I performed a checkout on an earlier commit to verify this also happens with the built-in renderer as well.

I have tested this under Windows 10 with the latest NVIDIA drivers, and this doesn’t occur at all. This seems to be Mac only.

If you’re able to reproduce the issue, please submit a bug-report as described in this document:

It’s important that you report these issues together with a reproduction project if you want them to get fixed. If you don’t do it, it might be a long time until someone else reports them or until Unity Technologies find them.

After you submitted the bug-report, you receive a confirmation email with a bug-report Case number. Please post the Case number (number only, not the link) in this forum thread for Unity staff to pick up.
