2019.3 Alpha versions stopped working completely

As the title suggests, none of the 2019.3 alpha versions work for me now. They did work about a week ago, but not now. I recall of no changes made to the system and/or its settings during that time. Tried multiple versions, all of them crashed shortly after selecting which project to load. Not even completely empty projects manage to boot. 2019.1 and 2019.2 versions work perfectly fine. Here are the crash files that were generated during the crash. Thank you.

Could you please submit a bug report for these crashes?

Will do now, thank you.

Looks like this is the underlying issue:

How do we change this without having to load the editor? I don’t know where 2019’s preferences are stored, but I’ve a found some settings in ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Unity Technologies\Unity Editor 5.x’.

There are a few ways to change to the version of the Asset Database that your project is launched with:

  1. Invoking Unity.exe -adb1
  2. Having a text file at the root folder (i.e. next to the Assets folder) of your project called adb1.txt

These two options should work on a per project basis, while we fix Unity Issue Tracker - Crash on AssetImportManager::AssetImportManager when opening a project with asset pipeline v2 Cache Server enabled

Hi guys, just wanted to add that I accidentaly upgraded Visual Studio Mac to 2019 (v8) and now Unity 2019.3.0a8 crashes every time I try to open. Uninstalling and reinstalling Unity did not help. Deleting Visual Studio Mac 2019 also did not help. Reinstalling Visual Studio Mac from the Hub also did not help. Unity 2019.3 is now completely messed up. I’ve opened a bug report 1170751 if you want to see the Editor.log .
It crashed in the native code or something, idk.

Oh, just wanted to add that any other versions of Unity work fine. The issue is only with 2019.3 alpha.

Hello,

Just wanna check up on if there’s any new information about this issue.
Unity 2020.2.0a15 (64-bit)

For me, the progress so far is…

  1. Cant open a project, it gets stuck with Importing.
  2. Added adb1.txt to the main folder
  3. Project loads up and works.
  4. I close it, try to open again, importing freezes.
  5. I add the command like for adb1, the project imports and opens properly.
  6. I close it, try to open again, importing freezes.
  7. I have both the .txt and the launch command, but I guess there’s something else going on now.

Try posting in the right forum section: Unity Engine - Unity Discussions

Also, you currently seem to use the Alpha version of 2020.2. The Beta has been released just a few days ago, so you may wanna give that one a try: https://unity3d.com/beta/2020.2b
