I am looking forward to the 2020.1 release. I learned that the latest Beta 8 was published on the 6th of May. How complete is the beta testing phase? Is there a point in time (or a time frame) when we can expect the actual release?
I need to plan to port my current project and also spend some time looking at all the different things.
Is there an idea how complete the UIElements package(s) will be? I would like to propose using it for the current project as we start to implement a complex UI.
Pretty long list of known issues, and many of them say they are now fixed in 2020.1, so that means they will ship in the next one or two betas, and many say they are in review for 2020.1, which means they are still planning to put those fixes in before hitting release candidate. I’d guesstimate at least 3 more beta builds from that list, and maybe more if any new high priority issues are reported. Then when they hit RC, it all depends on how bad any newly reported issues are before getting a final release.
(I don’t work for Unity of course, but how it usually works is as you approach the release you stop squeezing in fixes for minor issues reported, and only stop the train for any high priority or critical issues, but from the known issues list it looks like they are still trying to fix even low priority stuff, so they don’t seem in imminent release mode yet)
Beta 14 is out and still no RC. Please do not blame corona virus for the delay We are already considering to update to the beta since RC or final takes way too long.
Unity 2020.1 is not delayed because the determining factor for when an app goes from alpha to beta to release candidate to released is not based off of time but rather a list of changes that must be made before each cycle can be completed. If bugs are discovered during one of these stages that can be fixed during that stage they are added to the list.
If you’re in desperate need of the features of Unity 2020.1 and don’t mind having to deal with the problems that will still be present due to it being in a stage other than released feel free to download and start using the latest available beta. Just be prepared for stuff to break. Because that’s what’s holding it back in beta right now.
Hi @Ryiah can i ask you what is your estimated date for final release date ? i know it can differ so much and get delayed but could you just say a rule of thumb kinda date for it?
thanks in advance.
Honestly, just create a branch of your project for the 2020 beta and start testing it out. I would consider the beta to be stable enough to use if you are really that hellbent on using 2020, and you would have to do this process anyway with the full release.
