Officially, all LTS releases are supported for 2 years at minimum, with Enterprise customers receiving an additional year of support.
However, traditionally, this has meant that we have always been supporting two LTS releases at any given time, because the release cadence has been yearly. This is not official, but over the years it’s become expected.
So, since Unity 6 is releasing later this year and not two years after Unity 2021 LTS release, we had a gap of “expected” support of two LTS releases.
To do right by our users and community, we extended support for Unity 2021 LTS to last until the official release of Unity 6. When Unity 6 is released, Unity 2021 LTS support will drop, in favor of ongoing support for Unity 2022 LTS and Unity 6 as our two official releases.
I’ll need to check with the team on patch cadence for this period between “official” end-of-support on 11 Apr 2024, and whenever Unity 6 releases, but at least wanted to clarify the above support is what we’ve been operating under.
I also realize we haven’t made an official announcement/comment about this, and will also work with the team on how to best communicate that so that you all can see it.
