2d/2.5d game.(I need of information)

I know this may have gotten a lot of questions about it already, since I have read them all practically, but I do like to learn more about unity engine and making games therefore I though it would be great if I get some more amplified information about it.

First of all my experience so far:

1-I have made several coursera courses about the unity engine which I were able to made: 3d ball racing game, 2d platform game(basic without attacks) and other small projects.

2- Done several tutorials from the main website of unity .

Since now you may get an idea of my knowledge which is limited, I were wondering if you people could help me with few questions or well more or less getting “extended education” so i’m able to keep learning.

Main idea: My main idea or project is to make a replica of Mario smash bro’s, I know that I cannot do that for now so I will make a simply 1 vs 1, 2D/2.5D Fighting game, therefore I would like to get some guidance.

1- Any tools or assets that would be worth mentioning?

2- Some tutorials about making 2d games?

3- Extended programming courses or YouTube series or even books? (programming is my weakest point in game development :). )

4- Some other information worth mentioning?

Also do not worry about the design like drawing/sprites and such I have no problems with that so far :).

I’m really gratefully for the ones who will help me out to become a better developer , since I’m learning all by my self since sadly I couldn’t enter into the high education for game design because of few personal matters.

P.D: Creating games it’s a hobby so far, but i have a lot of time to learn so do not be awkward to give so much information as possible, since I will really appreciate it.

Since youll probably be performing your own research on these topics I’ll only provide one suggestion.
Look into UFE ultimate fighting engine.

Could give you a really nice jumping off point towards your game design goals.
It is 3D but with research - might be able to be used in a 2D or 2.5D game.
