2D body/leg/feet placement

Hey!

I’m using an asset (Puppet2D) to create my animations, it works just fine. My main problem is this: I create my animations as the character was simply on a horizontal ground and so it works fine when I move around a horizontal line. However, how could I make it work on slopes (or physics based) … like the limbs would interact with the environment?

I made a simple illustration, not a perfect one, but you get the idea.

So basically the feet/legs/hip(?)/spine(?) would bend just like in real life (I have my animations made with IK - moving the feet moves/bends the leg fine). I would like it to work while the character is running as well, not just in idle position.

I’ve Google’d around a lot but I couldn’t really find any solution for 2D, also I don’t really have an idea how should I do this programmatically (I don’t have a problem with coding, but I really need a starting direction for this one. :()

Any advice would be appreciated!

Just a coceptual idea.
Could you create a steep animation where the character is walking up the steepest incline in your game - then blend the walk and steep incline walk based on the slope angle of the terrain. This would require some coding I believe and Im not a programmer, but that sounds like a doable animation setup.

Please update with your iterated setups and results.
