2D Door Animation

Hey Devs, How would you go about animating this door?
My first thought is to make a 3D door and just rotating it, but I foresee weeks of hair pulling trying to make a 3D animation look right on in that skewed 2D door frame. Not to mention the Orthographic vs Perspective projection mode.

Anyone got good tips for me, think I can pull it off or am I going to have to settle for a simple transparency toggle hidden behind some sort of particle effects of fade in/out.

Are you saying this is a perspective-rendered 3D model that is now a 2D flat-shown texture, one view of it open, one view of it closed?

It’s a 2D image of a doorway. I added the door in Photoshop.

Gotcha… yeah, I think your intuition regarding it being a hassle is spot-on.

You could also just cross-fade from one image to the other while playing a door creaking noise…

Otherwise, I see wood splinters and broken planks of wood in your future…

But whatever you do, I urge you to move forward because often when you live with these things in some not-quite-optimal state, you find better ways to do them…

… or you decide “meh, good enough.” and your customers will probably never care.
