Let me first apologize for the newbieish question. I just completed the 2d lerpz side scroller tutorial and foudn the set up to be relatively easy to follow along. Now that I have an understanding for the engine I wanted to start crafting my game.
The problem is I don’t know squat about 3d. I know photoshop, illustrator, etc inside and out. So my question is is it possible to make a 2d game without actually having a 3d skeleton to mesh the 2d skins on?
I was really hoping to do some pixel art. thanks in advance!
Unfortunately there’s no such thing as a strictly 2d element within unity - the best way to make a 2d game with sprites would be to apply those sprites to planes, set your camera to be orthographic (meaning it has no perspective at all) and crank your ambient light up to 100%. This will make your 2d art show up in unity without any perspective or lighting messing up its appearance.
As for changing what each plane is displaying (for cycling between different sprites) you’d have to script a system to do this manually. Its definitely possible (and there are a number of ways you could go about it) but its unfortunately something that unity has no automated tools to assist with.
Hmm. Thanks for the quick and accurate response! I guess I can give it a try to see if I can do that. It was actually Zombieville USA that had me even considering to use Unity. Thanks again for the response! I really appreciate it.
