I need help with designing and putting a level together in unity. How do other people do it? What are the common methods? Let’s say you are making a Mario platform game, and you are designing the level in photoshop. Are you supposed to make a different piece for each element? or does it all go together?
For Mario-style levels it’s recommended to use a tile engine (I like SpriteTile). You make elements in fixed block sizes and place them on a grid, and a tile editor makes repeating blocks easier and much quicker to “paint” on the map. If you’re designing a more freeform sort of map, just make components and place them as sprites with colliders and any necessary scripts, resizing and rotating as you like.
