2d look?

So whats the secret to getting the 2d look that projects like Zombieville do so well?

So far the best i get is using the cutout diffuse shader and a directional light. the problem is the aliasing looks crappy and the lights illuminating my 2d planes also light my 3d scene. i’m testing it using a png that looks great as a GUI texture. Any hints?

if you don’t want lighting just use a non lit shader

the rest actually has been talked about in pretty detail in the past by the creator of zombieville

non lit? is that the self illuminating shaders?

thanks for the tip, i’ll do a search and see if i can find the technique.

The shader isn’t what gives it the self-illuminated look in our case, we just crank our ambient light up to pure white and don’t use any lights in the scene at all.

Thanks…

BTW the character design and overall look is pretty awesome.
