2D Pixel Art

Has anyone else tried creating sprites that are supposed to be in the “pixel art” style? I cannot get Muse to create anything that has the classic pixel art look. Any help would be appreciated

Hi @ArcBurn459
Have you tried the Style Training feature of the tool? It allows you to provide a few examples of the style you are looking for (5-15 sample images) and fine-tune the sprite model to generate in your desired style.

I have tried it. I did some custom training and it generated some pixel art-ish stuff but wasn’t fantastic. Here’s a basic summary of what I did:

  1. Created a modular ship building base art in Procreate. Here are some images of what I made:

  2. Then I upscaled them in photoshop to use as training data.

  3. I tried with around 700 generations. I then tried creating a “top down view of an intergalactic warship” and here is what I got.

What would be great is if there was an option to choose different sizes (32x32, 64x64, etc) and also define a palette. For now I’m better off just using the components I built and creating a randomizer for enemy ships.

Thank you @AaronXRDev1 for the extra bits of information! Those screenshots help too. It is true, our tools aren’t quite optimised for pixel art generation at this moment.

We understand that pixel art has many more nuances to it than just pure pixelation, downscaling or color clamping etc. There are many more considerations such as pixel clusters, doubles, jaggies, outlines, color count limit or perhaps even a color palette.

Also like what you mentioned, we would need to support different output sizes such as 16x16, 32x32, 64x64 etc. for it to be truly useful. Same goes for style training. We would need to able to pick up and train these pixel subtleties to truly emulate the different pixel art style of our users.

Thank you for sharing! These are really helpful so keep them coming!

Yeah, it would be amazing to have Muse follow the general rules of pixel art and be able to pick up style. I just started on the pilot portraits, so I’m gong to see if I can use Muse for that.
