I’m looking for recommendations on what platformer character controller to use.
I could write my own but that seems silly given the existing assets available.
These are the ones i’ve looked at so far. First one seems to have a lot of features.
I came across the videos where SebLague shows how its platformer controller works (the third one). It should work great with slopes, and makes it well documented, letting you add your own features without breaking things as you know how all of the stuff work, as long as you watch the 13 youtube videos.
The second one seems made for those wanting to write their own from almost scratch.
The first one has … a lot of features, it would take me days to understand everything it does. I wouldn’t start from that, but i may try it, then try to find the feature i need from it and add it to my own platformer.
I’m using the SebLague videos and they are amazing for a platformer controller. It was going to be my first game to make a 2D platformer like mario, megaman, castlevania, etc… but It quickly seemed to be a bit more than I could chew at the time (almost two years ago) with little experience and his videos I was able to get a platformer started and had movement, slopes, water, wind zones, flawless moving platforms, conveyor belts, multi jump, variable jump, wall climb/slide, variable acceleration. As a foundation his method of using ray casts instead of physics will get you going in the right direction for a platformer.
