So I’ve been tinkering with unity on and off for the last year, made a few basic pseudo-games not worth mentioning and had my share of over ambitious project ideas that I’ve hidden in a do not open box in the back of my head somewhere. However spiralling ideas aside I’ve finally come to rest on “a simple 2D platformer”. Famous last words.
Intentions are for iOS and OUYA ports (thank you unity for the free android publishing!) to be released someday, however it’s a long way away!
Gameplay will consist of stealth platformer mechanics based on grab and run thief missions where the player has to locate and swipe a target before being discovered and subsequently chased by aggressors. Think 2D Assassins creed with less violence and more humour.
Anyway without any further waffling enjoy some of the character art, currently working on animating them via spine2D (excellent bit of kit if any of you haven’t looked at it before);
Random assortment of characters.
Background art and more characters will appear soon. I did also have a video of one of the shaman being drawn, however due to it being an early iteration it included a rather dodgy looking mask detail/shape which a peer later remarked was inappropriate for the general public lol.
I love the style of your characters! Would you mind posting an image of one of your characters broken into pieces? I am currently learning how to do skeletal/cutout animations and I’d love to see how you draw your characters to acommodate this style!
Hey guys,
sorry for not getting back to this sooner - had a rather hectic summer but i’ve found myself with free time again so back to it haha.
I don’t have a gameplay video i’d be willing to show yet, it’s all rather sub par - no animations, temporary place holder art - and to be honest a lack of functionality - however I will try to get one up A.S.A.P.
In regards to how the characters are ripped apart;
Love the art style. Are you mainly an artist, programmer or a bit of everything?
You and I are not much different apparently : Over ambitious projects and finally settling on a ‘simple’ sidescroller. I’m sure you have followed the same pattern as me :
“Yeah it will be really simple”
“But I like this idea…”
“Ohhhh and this idea!”
“Crap this is huge”
“Challenge accepted”
So good luck and maybe we can motivate each other not to go over the top eh?
Bit of everything and nothing, currently studying design so i’m encouraged to do a little of it all. However i wouldnt say i have particular skills in any one area. Just a vague ability to scrape along lol.
For me it goes;
“Yeah this will be really simple”
“But I like this idea…”
“Ohhhh and this idea!”
“Crap this is huge”
“Okay well i’ll make something smaller, that will be really simple”
