Seems neat, you can get some 3D models for prototyping from turbosquid.com by the way.
One thing I’d look into is improving the handling, it “feels” slow, unless that’s the kind of feel you’re going for.
My spaceship is destroyed at LV 7 . 
Not bad for the game. It’s kinda fun. I think the speed of shooting time is a little bit slow. And when my spaceship is destroyed, the game freeze. o.O
I agree, the ship could move a bit faster for my taste. Maybe make it an upgrade the player can pick up?
The smooth background scrolling looks very good, though.
