2d sprite glow always unimpressive

I have tried numerous solutions to get a glowing ball as the 2d character in my game but the best i can get is a very faint outline of a glow.
Here is the latest solution i have tried: GitHub - Elringus/SpriteGlow: A sprite glow effect for Unity game engine
In the gif you can see it glow very bright. The attached image shows the gif on the left vs mine at max settings:


Any suggestions as to what i might be missing here and in the other tutorials where i tend to get the same issue?

maybe, increase the glowing sprites pixels per game unit.
