3 axis or rotary joystick

Hi,

I want to use a 3-axis or rotary joystick so that I can use the twist element of the stick to rotate a camera. The front/back and left/right move the vehicle.

Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?

Thanks

Dave

Absolutely, just make sure you’ve assigned three axis in the input settings for your project. You can re-assign them in the Input Manager for the stand alone application also.

Thanks - looks easy enough. Don’t suppose you could recommend a good supplier of a rotary joystick? 'Ive found one, (CH Products) which looks good but is a bit pricey.

I have an el cheapo Saitech that works.

CH products makes good joysticks and if you want to use a HAT switch on the something like CH Fighterstick Pro (ubs) that would work also. I think a HAT switch is easier to work with than the twist option. CH does not have any products that have a twist option as part of the stick itself.

If you are looking for a twist as part of the stick itself than the Saitek X-55 (Rhino) HOTAS system would work. Or The Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X would work too.

The CH products and Saitek and generally are more expensive products then most of their competitors.

For good HAT support I would recommend Rewired (Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making) also. Since it supports (DirectInput, Raw Input and Xinput) it should handle almost every game controller easily.

I think that 8-way POV HAT would work best. Since the way you discuss the camera it sounds very similar to how pilot looks around the aircraft in flight simulations.
