I’m going to finally break down and pick up a 3 button mouse, any favorites out there?

Apple Mighty mouse.
Its a bit expensive, but it’s one of the best I have ever used. The scroll wheel/middle button is two way which is a nice feature too.

I love my MX1000, though a couple more then 3 buttons 
I’ve used a cheap logitech 3 button optical mouse with my mac for a couple years, and it worked great, no problems at all.
Then I got a mighty mouse, and I must admit it is an inferior product. The programability of the buttons is kinda cool, but the left and right click sometimes don’t detect correctly if your fingers drift anywhere near the middle of the shell, and the little scroll nub, while great for scrolling documents, sucks for other things. In maya 6+ where the scroll wheel can be used to zoom, you’ll zoom in/out a little every time you try to do a regular middle-mouse click. In unreal tournament or any other shooter really, the scroll wheel can’t be used to cycle weapons like a regular one, because the increments are so tiny you’ll scroll through 3 or 4 guns at once with the tiniest movement…
Oh yeah, and if you have any software that has functions that require you to press two mouse buttons at once, you’re SOL. The mighty mouse can only detect 1 button at a time, so if certain shortcuts in your favorite apps require a middle and right click together for instance, it aint gonna happen.
However, if you don’t see yourself running into these problems with the software you use, then the mighty mouse is a really comfortable, accurate, programable mouse. Just thought I’d warn you before you drop the money on one.
I also would not suggest the mighty mouse, its pathetic for games, and can be real annoying to use. My dad got one, and whenever we play LANs and use his comp we grab one of the other 3 button+ mice laying around. I love logitech mice, I have used one on every Mac I have ever had since the USB era. I would suggest logitech over kingston also. We have a kingston in the house and both logitech mice are far better. My personal favorite is the "Click optical mouse’ nice and comfortable and the 4th button is perfect for expose show desktop. I wouldn’t suggest a wireless mouse ether, they don’t work well with games, they are heavier and you have to wry about battery power.
I always go for a mouse where the click wheel had well defined clicks, unlike some Microsoft mice I have tried where the click wheel has a completely smooth movement. You want the precision that having a defined click gives you. Well thats my 2 c. Jeff
Logitech basic three button mouse. I have two and they’ve lasted well.
I’ve got an old Digital 3 button mouse. PS/2 with a PS/2 to USB adaptor also hooked up to my HappyHacking keyboard…
There is no scroll wheel on it as I bought it a long time ago before scroll wheels were common. But it works fine with Unity.
Avoid MacMice “The Mouse” like the plague.

Lots of good advice here, thanks. Does anyone have any experience with the WACOM tablet/mouse combos?
Me, me, pick me! I’ve got a new Wacom tablet (just bought it to replace my old ArtZ II) on the weekend. I need a tablet because my education background is a double major in historical urban geography and fine art. I still sketch but do all of my large fine art now digitally in either Studio Artist or Painter. Wacom rules. Unless you make a living doing art, the Graphire 4 series is fine for you. You most likely won’t miss either the tilt feature (handy for Airspraying in painter) or the extra 512 levels of pressure in the Intuos line. And since the Graphire series is 1/2 the price of the Intuos and yet gives you the full Wacom quality and durability, it’s a no-brainer. Most folk can also get by with a 4x5, but get a 6x8 if you can afford it … my own strokes in Painter/SA can actually fit in a 4x5 though. More info needed? Let me know.
I don’t like them, the tablet is fine for use with the pen but having just the tablet represent your entire screen when you are using a mouse I find annoying. If you want percussion you have to turn tracking down, and then you have to keep lifting the mouse and setting it back down because your strokes can only be so big. Jeff

So is it fair to say the tablets are good for drawing, but the I should consider substituting a logitech 3 button mouse in place of the one that comes with the tablet?

I would agree. I have an intuos 9x12 that i’ve had for quite some time. It’s fantastic for drawing/painting but the 5 button mouse that comes with it is cheap junk. It’s hard to describe, but it doesn’t “feel” like a mouse… I think because it doesn’t have the proper speed gearshifts when you are moving it quickly vs. when you’re moving it slowly.
Again, gotta recommend this one…

Thanks for all the input, I’m here tonight with my shiny new Logitech basic $14.99 3 button mouse. It’s working great for general system use, can’t wait to get into Unity and Cinema 4D and see how it goes!
I think I’m going to go with the tablet at a later date.
