It is currently priced as pay-what-you-want. This means you can get it free, or give any amount. Even the smallest amount is highly appreciated, it really goes a long way.
Oh hey! My post is back online. It was deleted by the moderators for “advertising” earlier, now it’s back. But now my Gumroad account is suspended because one guy wanted a refund. The Unity community sure isn’t what it used to be. I’ll probably just put up the PDF for download on the website.
You showed up two years ago, announced your ebook, and then completely disappeared. We knew next to nothing about you and your qualifications but I pre-ordered your ebook for giggles and in the hopes you would stick around so I could form my opinion.
When you disappeared I quickly forgot about it. A few days ago I noticed Gumroad issuing a charge to my PayPal account and because I didn’t recognize it at all I told PayPal to reverse it. By the time the process was underway I finally remembered what the charge was supposed to be about.
Ok. I hope you got your refund ok. That’s totally understandable that you didn’t recognize the charge. Just wish Gumroad didn’t remove my product for it…
Turns out even when you spend 2 years making a book, and sell it as ‘pay what you want’, in hopes of getting a couple bucks to buy Ramen, no one wants to buy it anyway. Oh well, I learned my lesson
Being a successful author isn’t that much different from being a successful game developer. You need to market your product to your intended audience. Showing up out of the blue, announcing a product, and then disappearing shortly after will only lead to failure. Worst case people may view you as a scammer because that’s frequently the tactic they take.
If you want an example of an author that was successful in this community I recommend @jhocking . He was an active member of this community both before and after the release of his book. He frequently showed up in the Getting Started section of the forums offering advice, solutions to problems, and a quick mention of his book.
A bunch of information compiled together like this sounds useful, but I have to agree with Ryiah. From the information presented how does anyone know that you actually have the information you say the book contains?
aw thanks, glad you appreciated my approach. Honestly I feel bad that I’m not around much anymore because I really like helping people and answering questions, but after having a baby I kinda fell off the face of the earth.
I’ve been working on the assumption that you were involved in crunch time for a project somewhere, but having a baby is about the same thing. At least you show up from time to time. The OP announced his book originally, disappeared for years, shows up to mention it was released, and then disappears again. I don’t expect him to ever show up again at this point.
