I have been doing some test character in sculptris and i am curious how much could i charge for that character.
5000 polygons for whole mesh. Textures are 2048x2048 pixels for body and 1024x1024 pixels for head.

I think you’ve gone a bit extreme with the size of the textures, i mean its basically ass the same. Other than that i think its good.
to much poly’s
can we see the model?
Just because its high poly and high res doesn’t tell us anything…
Sorry i dont know whats wrong with image hosting services today, however it is working now and image is back online.
The details are kinda blobby and samey and the textures don’t really have much in them. They definitely do not warrant a 2048 and a 1024. You could put that entire character on a 1024 and not notice any real difference. Higher res textures are meaningless if you don’t make use of them.
Anatomy-wise, aside from him all being out of whack… his rib cage is really strange, his shoulders are weird and sticky out, he has no pectoral muscles, his arms are too short and his belly’s odd and saggy for someone so waif thin, neither does he have any hips.
Need to see wireframes and texture flats before any technical criticisms can be given.
You could probably sell it to someone who didn’t know better, but I doubt anyone with a proper eye would pay for it.
Also, is that polycount in triangles or polygons? Triangles are the standardised geometry yardstick in games art - polygon counts are pretty meaningless.
sculptris = not ready gameart. There is no optimization and only exports to .obj and the list goes on. ALOT needs to be tweaked to make it work inside unity at a later stage. I do love sculptris though
I appretiate all constructive criticism, but that wasnt actually what i was looking for. All i am looking is some pickup price that i can set for this character with its current look and properties.
At this level 10-15 USD. Maybe even lower, but i don’t want to disrespect your work.
Okay sounds good.
Just wanted reply on this. Sculptris is gameart ready. It just HAS to be used with other software pipelines and cannot be used exclusively like Zbrush for example. Sculptris has good enough sculpting, automatic unwraping, polypainting so it is good enough for what it does. You just have to combine it with other software for final product.
Really, it’s not game art ready.
Polyflow is paramount for characters, you need to retopo sculpts. Automatic UVs are rarely good enough on their own without further manual tweaking and packing. Polypainting is almost always used as a base for further texture work - I don’t know anyone who uses it straight up.
Can we see some wireframes and texture flats?
um…honestly…garbage, you can not be serious…
you will be lucky, to even get that in the asset store
but for a four year old, maby this might get on the fridge.
and to other people who have decided not be honest…please get real.
anyone who has any expereince with this media knows…
this artwork/model = absolute noob…no question…
Digital-Tudors / 3 months intensive training/ ZBrush…then get back to us…
run it through a level, rig and skin him, then post a reel or unity player of him in actual action.
post his tri count, uv and topological layout, baked textures and norms…
then , and only then do you even break the $10.00 threshold…
Look at Farfarer portfolio…that is good stuff, not triple A, ready for Halo3, but quailty solid work.
that is your minimum benchmark…
this is not my opinion, it is reality…
sorry, I not want to discourage you,
but for the people who have put in the grueling hours of 3D model development,
This is perfect example of what NOT to turn in to your project lead…
Start over…learn the basics…
your trying to run…when your still picking up the basics of crawling…
please show this to 10 working developers…all 10 would laugh…
actually…why would you even post this?? are you really that naive???
sorry, but um…REALITY CHECK!!!
Heh, there’s such a thing as tact. Nothing wrong with people being kind with crits. It’s clear that this isn’t ready for selling but telling him that it’s flat out crap without giving criticisms as to why is a bit defunct and comes across as simply being rude.
(In defence of my own folio - a lot of it is very old. As for the not ready for triple A comment - I currently work for a major AAA developer and I was actually offered a position within Bungie’s Halo team a few weeks back (turned down as I’m not wanting to move to America just yet) ;))
@farfarer thank you i was looking for the “appropriate” words to use on the forums but yea there is no reason to call the the dudes work crap that is just rude and wrong. I hope the time never comes when people on the forums forget that unity’s population is mostly INDIE users and are hobbyist and just troll on everyone’s work.
sorry, but um…REALITY CHECK!!!
cruel…leading somebody on is cruel…you want spin…lies…deception…watch fox,
this is money people.
no way would I have come down this hard if it was a “personal project”
but cash, money…that is where there is NO ROOM for sugar coating.
standards people…remember those…
the dude said it was a “test model” thats all it was it wasn’t something he did for someone and asking for pricing. From just seeing you justify being cruel and saying this is cash this is money as if this guy was some professional artist looking for work, i can clearly see you won’t get the simple point im trying to make and it’s better for me to just leave this thread and walk away considering im getting to heated over this. A not to my surprise you asked a similar question on your own thread about how you have only been using unity for 8 months and just wanted people opinions about your work but hell you probably get satisfaction calling other peoples work crap.
The art’s at the standard that, given a few more months hard practice and study, the artist could start to produce artwork at a standard that could be sold.
It’s not leading him on, it does show promise.
It’s already been stated that this character is nowhere near a standard that could be sold. I’ll leave it there.
ok…I’m sorry…
I now feel bad…
but, your all drinkin the same freakin coolaid…
it’s fine forcevfx if someone called your work crap i would also be protective over you as well, its just there alot of talent on the community even you and we can’ t shoot ourself in the foot by having someone’s motivation drop because of someone saying that there work sucks… there’s too many great things in this community and we shoudn’t the hinder future of great artist , designers or whatever that are just getting their feet wet.
