In this tutorial I will show you how to model a tank like this in blender
I will be working more on it like add the guns and setting up a rig for it as well as texturing it so make sure you check back

Thanks!

I’m a C# developer and have no experience with 3D modelling.

I’ve tried Blender before but it was completely overwhelming.

But, I need to create some simple objects for our games and I’ll be watching your videos to figure it out.

Are you going to get into animation and how to build the model with components that can be moved (like the track and the turret, etc.)?

Thanks!

Not to hijack this thread, as I believe this tank video is important, but:

@Rick_Love try the 3rd party tools for blender details, also, this is a good tutorial to get started with blender:

Making the 608 bearing is an interesting tutorial.

@cgphoenix thanks for the tutorial!

@Rick_Love I am happy that you liked it. Yeah blender can be overwhelming to start off with but if you keep at it and keep pushing your self to do more it get a lot more easier knowing the hot keys can save a lot of time i would recommend have a text document with the most used hot keys and the hot keys you use the most at hand here are some I use the most

Tab jump from Object mode Edit mode
Ctrl + R adds a loop cut
E extrude
R rotate (if you hit R and Y it will rotate along the Y same thing for X and Z )
S scale (if you hit S and Y it will scale along the Y same thing for X and Z )
T brings up or hide the toolbar on the left
N brings up or hide the sidebar on the right
W brings up specials
Delete or X brings up delete menu
Alt loop select
Ctrl + Z undo (note Object mode Edit mode have their own different undo history )
F bridge 2 edges
Alt + M merge

Dont worry about braking blender you can go to file load factory settings

if the mouse settings are driving you up the wall like it did for me go to file User preferences and then user input look at the left side and you will find select with and set it to Left but note if you do load factory settings or update blender you will need to do it again

@Adam-Buckner_1 No worry there is some good stuff on there I did not know about I am going to have to look at this myself. Np I happy that you liked it :slight_smile:

Oops @Rick_Love Yeah I am hoping to set it up for animation as well and I am hoping to texture it to

@cg

Wow, that is helpful!
Thanks for this list!

I’ll save that in a text doc so I can refer to it when I get started.

@Adam-Buckner_1 Thanks, I’ll check that out too.
