3d Modeling software

So, I’m looking for a good 3d modeling software for Unity. I’ve used sketchup before. Had some fun with it but my trial ran out lol… but even at that i’d try to import my objects into unity and they’d import but without the textures on them. It was only my objects too. So stuff like that would really make me annoyed. Then I tried to swap to blender and I hate it. Its awful I cant get used to it. Sketchup was the one for me. Is there any free 3d modeling software that works like sketchup and is easy? I need to build interior buildings/characters/weapons. Stuff like that. Like what do people who sell their stuff on the asset store use?

Blender is what most people use for free modeling software. It’s very advanced so you’ll need to invest some time and effort. There’s also Daz3D but I’ve never tried it; however it seems pretty popular and well documented.

3d modeling is hard. Switching to another program is only going to displace your problems with it. Sketchup is probably not suitable for game development either. The models I’ve seen from it are quite bizarre, and it gives you so little control over the export process that I’d need to bring it into blender to fix up the model anyway.

As for “I can’t get used to it,” yes you can. If you set out with the mindset that something is so different and you’ll never get used to it, you never will. You’ll constantly expect Blender to conform to your unrealistic expectations. Learn the way things are done in Blender and do them that way. You will get used to it given time and practice.

Blender can seem quite daunting, but as mentioned in the previous replies 3D modelling can be a challenge. I would recommend working through the official tutorials and getting to grips with the basics. Once you understand the interface, move on to creating basic models like rudimentary buildings, it really does become easier with time.

Blender works good with Unity.

I am an advanced user of both Blender and Maya and have found both to be good, Both have strong points and weak points. I seem to lean toward Blender most of the time because, honestly, the workflow just seems easier with regard to where tools are etc. I have, however, set my Blender up to work a lot like Maya simply because I couldn’t really get used to the way blender works out of the box. Blender is VERY customizeable so you can set it up pretty much however you like (within reason). You WILL have to put some time and effort into learning one or the other as there is no silver bullet! Obviously there is a cost for Maya LT as opposed to Blender unless you are a student. So, I suggest you pick one and then get down to learning all you can about the one picked. A couple of things I really like about Maya vs Blender is the quad draw tool, and the EP curve. A couple of things I like about Blender vs Maya is the make faces tool and and the ease of switching views and modes. Both programs have alternatives to those couple I mentioned, I was just trying to show some examples. Bottom line: You have to spend the time to learn them. Good luck.

Hi I’am using blender for detailed models like house enviroment or weapons etc.Furthermore I’m using google sketchup for un detailed buildings

Thank you for the replies guys. I guess I’ll just have to get used to blender.

If you’ve tried it in the past, and were put off, it’s worth it to give it another look - the UI has gotten significantly better.

According to the official blog, future versions of Blender could offer task specific editor templates…

‘Blender is an ideal content creation platform for game engines such as Unity and Unreal. However, currently Blender doesn’t have a focused interface for game makers. If we can work to remove functionalities that’s irrelevant to game designers, and provide basic shaders and assets that are compatible with modern game engines, artists will have a much easier time creating content in Blender’.
