Which is better for making a roleplay game?

2I think that using a 2d game would be better for what you need.
More succesful role-play games have been created in 3d though.You could go for an orthographic 2d one similar to early final fantasy and zelda games however they are out dated by todays audience standards.
that is not to say 2d havn't done well but 3d games are what do well now, just like 3d gaming will most likely be an industry standard of next gen consoles
