3D Space Shooter with Top-Down View

Hello guys, I’ve always wanted to create a game like this one: - YouTube

The game is called Raystorm and I really like it.

Anyways, I figured that the Space Shooter tutorial would be the ideal place for me to start working towards that kind of games (I’m a complete noob), what has me scratching my head thought, is that the Space Shooter tutorial only works with a 2D background and a camera without perspective, but as you can see, Raystorm uses a kind of 3D background as far as I can tell.

What I want to ask is how do I move the game in the direction of Raystorm, as far as backgrounds and perspectives go? Any other tutorials out there that you might refer me to?

Set your camera to perspective and put 3d objects in the background. To have the background scroll, just put all the background elements under one GameObject and move that object every update.
