3D TextArt using Microsoft Builtin Fonts to SELL in Asset Store

I not really satisfied with Unity 3D Text (although I can use image instead 3D text). And I replace it with 3D Text Art model that I create and it turn up boost my under development games layout, developing time, 'performance' and preview.

So I thinking to sell it over the Asset Store. But I'm in a doubt about the fonts I will be using as start, since it generally mimic it and alike convert it to be 3D model.

Here some that I'm in doubt and I hope someone can answer in many field such as legal area, market visibility etc.

  1. Is allowed to create 3D model from Microsoft Built-in Fonts such as Arial to be distribute or to sell?

  2. Is allowed to use the Arial name within product, I might be using name such as 3DArial as the product name?

  3. Is this product going to be booming or just trashed within the Asset Store. I need your opinion.

  4. Do if I using commercial all allowed license from some freebies fonts around the internet considered as safe way? rather than using Microsoft Built-in Fonts?

I hope the answer will be adequate enough since I just so ready to start selling this stuff. Thank in advance!

If I understand you, you want to sell artwork based on existing fonts, right? This is a good question of a legal nature, I don't know. My guess is you'd have to find the licensing for those fonts to see what they cover. Free internet fonts may also have provisions to not alter the font, but probably safer.

More importantly, if this thing you have can convert any font into a better 3D model of a font, I'd be more interested in that as a tool, so I can convert my own fonts. If you don't include any fonts in your product, you're safe from those legal issues. And if the models produced are very much better/cooler than what Unity can do, it should find respect in the store.
