3D Tower Defense Prototype

Hello Unity Community

I just joined this community for a specific reason…I should probably give some background to why I am here…I am a junior in college in a game design program. this semester our curriculum is testing us by making us create small groups to create a 3d game prototype. my group consists of a designer a programmer and two artists (one of which is me)…today was our first meeting and we came up with the idea that we wanted to give a shot at creating a 3d zombie inspired tower defense game and our designer offered the suggestion of making it in unity which even though none of the rest of us have worked in that specific engine we aggreed…i am not so much concerned with us artists as we are mostly just importing assets,im very confident in our programmer, but he has still not used the engine, so the question i pose to you all are is this a posable task to undertake in 15 weeks(keep in mind this will be pretty simple and short with interactivity ranging from 15-30 mins)? and any other information that could help us along the way would be much appreciated

thanks alot
Imperial

A simple tower defense game shouldn’t be any problem at all.

Some of the programmers that hang out on these forums could have a prototype completed in a week or less (using primitive place holders for art assets).

Very nice! So now i pose the question, where exactly do we start? what kind of coding should we begin with AI or user coding?

For a simple tower defense game, I wouldn’t worry about AI yet unless you have extra time to polish it. Get the basic functionality down first using primitive objects as place holders for the art assets.

You want to make sure that the zombies try to get to the tower, and that they die when they are shot by a projectile.

It’s a tutorial to a very simple game that your programmer should be able to go through really fast. If he already understands the Unity interface, he could probably skip straight to video #6 or #7 and skim it.

Thanks WinningGuy you’ve been very helpful with this!
