3DS Max morph to Unity

Just added a new feature to my MegaFiers system which allows the simple export of morph data from 3DS Max to Unity.

Yes everything on the MegaFiers system can be changed at runtime :slight_smile:

As an ‘old school’ maxer, I’m very excited to see some of my favorite modifiers working in Unity! (Yes Virginia, there is functionality beyond polymodeling in Max)

So I’m assuming we can animate them via the Animation editor, but how ‘expensive’ are they to use? Are they something we can use with abandon or do we save them for special occasions? Are you seeing any significant drop in frame rate?

Yes they can be animated from the editor. As for how expensive, well all depends really, some of the modifiers are more costly than others, ie bend or FFD say, but I have in my test scenes objects the 10,000 verts with 10 modifiers acting on them and all runs fine, the MegaFlyer plane in the videos for example has over 30,000 vertices with a complex path deform and in a scene with two other complex meshes with multiple deformations and clouds it was running very nicely on my pc, they even run nicely on android and iphone, plus you can disable the mods at anytime or the whole system and keep the deformed mesh, so complex scenes with loads of morphs can be managed to keep it all under control, ie an object with 20 modifiers on could be scripted to update one per frame etc.

Just done a Blender exporter and wonder if anyone has a nice shape key example I could test it on?

Exporter now available for 64bit versions of Max. Still looking for a nice blender shape key example if anyone has something they are willing to donate so I can do a video showing the process.

Have you had any luck testing the blender exporter, I am hoping to get your system soon and having blender export of Shape Keys is important to me.

Not yet, cant find a suitable free blender file on the web and haven’t got the time to learn blender at the moment to make one, plus I am not an artist :slight_smile:

Yes all the modifiers work on skinned meshes as well.

i already purchase megafiers from the website, but i can’t find the exporter file from my 3ds max 2012 64-bit to megafiers in unity. where i can find it or buy it? thanks.

You email him for it. But is it still needed now that Unity supports blendshapes? Unless you’re locked into an older version of unity.
