A common question I’m sure, but what is the process (from units setup/exporting) to get a biped’d, skinned and animated character into Unity?
I hope to get all of it in one thread then ask for it to be stickied for it to be easily found.
cheers.

Well first you make your bones or biped for your model, then you will add skin to your mesh, then you will animate it…then bake it to fbx…and add it to unity
that simple??? hmm, okay. I must be doing something wrong then lol.
Well it’s not “That” simple though…
Ah, well then ![]()
I’ve found a whole heap of Maya and blender video tutorials, but there seems to be a void cast over 3ds Max ![]()
Hello friend, you’ve used 3ds Max before?
Using biped in 3ds max you can import mocap (motion capture) of the web to use in their model, using only the parameters of the biped you can easily walk from one I click … see this tutorial
Walk Cycle with Biped
Thanks for the response.
I’m familiar with 3ds max and have infact done some mocap work. My issue is I don’t know how to bake in numerous animations and export them in an fbx, and have unity understand them.
It is that simple. It is 1, 2, 3.
I do this, its fine, there’s zero problems. Whats your problem exactly, please be specific.
It’s bone animation only. If your max spacewarps etc or forces affect bones then thats fine. Don’t forget to check "bake"in FBX export options. No per-vertex animation is possible, its bones only.
My issue is giving the model animations. It’s dandy to have it skinned and such, but i’d like to actually give them animations.

Buy the book that goes with the above video he also goes through animating the 3d model! And so much more…Basically the complete asset pipeline! But all this can applied to any 3d modeling package! But he uses 3d Studio Max.
Always happy to help a fellow West Aussie
