4.3 Framerate Issues...

Anyone else experiencing inconsistent framerates with 4.3 PC standalone release builds? For example, I launch a release build and it plays at 30fps, then I launch it again and it plays at 60fps… just basically replace the number with any number. I have no idea what it will be. This was not happening in the previous releases. Anyone else seeing this?

Actually, I am, and it’s almost exactly what you described, but also slightly different when I disable shadows completely.

At first, I noticed at some parts of my scene, my framerate will be 60, then I’ll scroll over another part of my scene and it will dip down to 30 (even if there are less objects in the screen view than when it was at 60 fps). Then I could scroll just a tad bit over from there, and it will go back up to 60 fps again.

So yes, there is something really weird going on. I disabled ALL shadows on “Fantastic” quality, and this cleared up the fps drops on certain static parts of the screen, however now I get random fps drops about every 5-10 seconds for no reason at all (which I detect more clearly when my camera is scrolling)…I’m not quite sure what to make of it.

Unfortunately, I don’t have Unity Pro, so I can’t use the profiler to detect what’s going on. However, I also noticed that upgrading from 4.2 to 4.3 somehow corrupted my gui skins. And I had to make completely new gui skins in order for my game to compile. So I’m wondering if I have to re-import, or redo a lot of my assets in order for 4.3 to be as stable as 4.2 was?? There’s something going on that wasn’t happening at all in 4.2, but I can’t pinpoint what it is.

I do have Unity Pro but I hadn’t tried using the profiler since the update. Now I’m also seeing a huge framerate drop when using the profiler. As soon as I turn it on the framerate gets cut in half. This is getting better all the time. :slight_smile:
