48 hours to write a game can you do it with Unity?

48 hours starting this weekend you can find out for yourself!

Ludum Dare 48 hour game development challenge is on this weekend, and ‘Notch’ has been known to attend !

Definitly watch this keynote: ludumdare.com/compo data is offline | Ludum Dare

Judging from the voting stats there could be well over 1000 people developing in the challenge, so plenty of competition!

Personally I’m getting on a bit so tend to go for the 72 hour Jam version.

Themes are voted on and currently these themes are in the running:

  • Limited Resources
  • Alchemy

The final theme is announced when the competition starts.

Here is my first, pre Unity, Ludum Dare game in Action!

And one I made with Unity a few years later…

A friend and I are both going to participate in the jam.
We are both beginners but would love to team up with some more people.
If anybody is looking for a interesting weekend challenge and would like to collaborate.

Get in touch.

  • we don’t really have much experience working in a team, so bear with us as we learn.
  • we are based in GMT+1

For all the other participants:
Good luck and I hope you have a fun weekend

Anyone can do it.

Excellent so R33lwhiteboy, you’re going in for LD23 then?

I wish I knew enough about coding to…

No, but I read that a few weeks ago and thought it was interesting. Right now I’m working on a game called “Hunted: 1882.”

The Thread

No way I’ll do it in a weekend, lol.

I just read the rules, and I found this, “Source code must be included”. How can I include that?

Just archive your Project folder once it’s done.

Same weekend as the Diablo 3 open beta… hmmm tough choice :stuck_out_tongue:

No that’s easy write a Diable style game that fits into the final theme, WIN WIN! ;o)

Good luck guys I tend to go solo, as with only 48hours your team communication would really need to be face to face and good to not get in the way of the project, probably best to have who’s going to do what sorted out, e.g. Art / Sound / Music / Programming / Design / Testing ect.

Have fun and Game Dev On! ;0)

Thanks Arowx.

So which strategy are you going to take in terms of tonight.
A) Staying awake till the theme gets announced (3 am) and then working trough the night?
B) Going to bed early and then starting tomorrow morning?

I am not sure what todo yet, I know it would probably be smarter to go to bed and start tomorrow morning.
But on the other hand we are doing it more for the fun of working together on this than the actual competition.

Due to time-zones, I’m warming up this evening and the ‘plan’, is off to bed set alarm for kick off read theme, think about it jot down and ideas, then back to sleep, hopefully waking up with a great game design already buzzing in my brain.

But you will need to be fully rested to get the best out of the full 48 hours!

Good Luck!

Urgh I wish I had more free time this weekend. Would have loved to do the compo. I did a jam a while back with a friend of mine… we never finished but we definitely made some good progress on a prototype that I plan to revisit at some point.

Does anyone have a secret desire to see a particular theme win? I’m quite interested in the Alchemy one oddly enough

Good luck! Cool concept.

The Theme is “Tiny World”, get ready to start your engines.

This theme is cool!

I never made any game with such time. Hope I’m able to pull it off.
