[5.2.1] Slow Performance When Inspector is Inspecting

Both 5.2.1 and 5.2.1p1 have a serious performance issue on both Mac and PC when something is being inspected (basically, when anything is selected and the inspector panel open). This is unfortunate because 5.2.1 fixes so many other obnoxious issues I was having with 5.2.0.

Is anybody else having this problem? I haven’t seen any other posts about it, and it’s not in the known issues. I’m having it on all computers and even with empty projects - the framerate drops to around 3fps and the whole editor lags when the inspector is inspecting, but is fine when nothing is being inspected.

I’ll file a bug report shortly, but I just wanted to check if my team is the only group with the issue so I can provide more definitive feedback in the report.

5.2.0f3 and 5.2.1f1 have been generally slower on OS X for us too - slow/beachballing behaviour when picking objects in the scene and hierarchy view, slower builds with longer pauses when hitting play in the editor, etc. We could not use 5.2.1p1 as picking UI objects in the scene crashed the editor. Leaving the editor open overnight is resulting in a few more crashes recently as well, but no idea what’s causing this yet.

Do you use the Perforce version control integration? If so, it could be this:

We’re using git - nothing integrated with the editor.

Yes, we are currently using Perforce - I’ll check this issue out more closely once I’m at the office. Thanks!

Yes, this indeed seems to be the issue from the other thread, reported as 728723

Thanks for the help - hopefully Unity gets this fixed soon.
