[5.3] Slower editor startup compared to previous versions

Project selection dialog takes 10 seconds to show up, was almost instantaneous on 5.2.3
Quite annoying especially when the editor crashes often and need to be restared

to me 5.3.1p4 startup is still very slow compared to 5.2.3
is it by design? am i the only one noticing it?
