5.4.0f3 right-clicking / opening a context menu sometimes completely crashes Unity & freezes OS

Using Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS & Unity 5.4.0f3, sometimes when I right-click / open a context menu Unity will crash, the bug reporter will open, and it will block any OS input (including keyboard: CTRL ALT T does not work, CTRL ALT F1 does not work, nor does typing) for about 3 minutes, then Unity just kills itself.

Just out of curiosity:
Are you on a Laptop with optimus (NVIDIA)?

This sounds related to the menu validation fixes - did you submit a bug report? Or can you send a logfile with the stack trace?

Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t get emails about the thread, kinda forgot about it

I did send a bug report, although I’m not completely sure it went through as Unity crashed, but the bug report window was still open.

I am, Nvidia GT 425M using the 361 “tested” driver

I have since switched back to the Windows editor - probably shouldn’t count on experimental builds as my daily driver - but seriously, thanks for the work so far guys. In fact, considering it’s a complete port and an experimental build, it actually works quite well.

FWIW, we’ve tracked this down, and it will be fixed in the next build.

I found that this problem happens mostly when you are running your game inside the editor.

I also found that if you run XFCE (sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop) instead of COMPIZ or METACITY, Unity don’t crash  I guess it could be seen as a temporary fix.

crashes on me every time for some 3d models. I am a noob
same on windows and osx
other projects no issues. Waiting for the fix

The fix for this issue has shipped in the 5.4.0p1 build. If you still experience this behavior with that build (or a later one), please file a new bug report with explicit reproduction steps.
