7-bit Pirates

This isn’t really news to people hanging around the Unity’s IRC channel, but I thought I’d let the forum users know about our newest project as well.

Without further ado, I present to you the…

The game is playable at http://www.7-bitpirates.com/ , but for those who just want a quick preview, here’s a video of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSMCZztO51M

Pretty neat huh? At least I think so :stuck_out_tongue:

Feel free to give us any C&C. And if you encounter a bug in the game, be sure to mention it. Can’t really fix something that we don’t know about  If you just want to show your support for the game, please like it on Facebook.

Over and out

I really enjoy the logo.

Only the logo ? :frowning:

WOW, I really like the customization of the ships! The gameplay is also fun, and I plan on playing this again soon.

BTW - liked on FB

I don’t know yet, because I can’t connect to anything from the office.

Only watched the vid atm (will check the rest out when I get some time to enjoy!)

But I must say, it has a great feel to it. Great work

Looks like a fun game. Are there upgrades you can get?

I think you will guys will need a master server (if you dont already have one), so it will handle the connection between players.

Or at least add some AI because I did not have anyone to play with.

Not at the moment, but we are looking into adding a lot more persistent features. But for now, gameplay takes priority.

WOW, this looks so great! Looking forward to giving it a spin.

Nice work indeed.

Regards,
Matt.

The looks were very polished, and I was particularly fond of the mouse control for steering the ship. The customization was also a nice touch.

Having a choice of individual ship types, though, would be excellent. I.e. being able to choose a Xebec or a Fluyt, etc.

Also, no one was on so I could only sail around enjoying the scenery. Could not figure out how to fire, so I am going to assume it uses an auto-fire mechanism? Or, is it just my incompetence in finding the right button?

All-in-all, a very nice job. Has room for expansion, but the core you already have is very solid.

Looks really nice. It’s actually really similar to something I’ve been working on (pirates, similar art style, similar ship controls), but it’s a different type of game.

Looking forward to seeing it evolve more, it’s looking very slick.

Well its right click to fire the cannon.

{Laugh} My incompetence, then. Kind of figured that was the case. Thanks for pointing it out. Will have to go back and give it a try; hopefully with someone else on as well.

It looks very nice, but I’m curious: why is it called 7-bit Pirates? It must be at least 9 or 10 bit!

Great stuff!
I think its showing that you are not trying to do everything at the same time but proceed feature by feature and concentrate on gameplay. And I like the style

Is the wind coming from any side? Are we faster in a certain direction? For me it wasn’t very intuitive to halt, when the ship reached my click-position.

Are you developing a master server?

The ‘Karhu’ sail is awesome!   Looking good!

There is no real wind per se, since we found that while adding it would add a layer of realism to the game, it also makes the gameplay more complex. For this project, intuitive gameplay is the main priority.

You can hold down W or the mouse button to continue moving after reaching the checkpoint if you don’t want to stop there:) We’ll have a tutorial screen showing all the controls in the next build

Master server is needed, but we are not going to use the one bundled with Unity. It’s a bit buggy.

Hehe. When I click another browser tab, the ship is following while I’m not around

I did not expect “real” wind and you have to set / lower sails or so. Just a breeze which makes you slower in some direction and faster in another. As tactical element.

Btw: I think “press space to join” is a but unintuitive as you usually allow mouse input.

Master server would be very welcome. It’s a lonely pirate life playing alone. Arrr.

Keep up the good work!

I’ll make the spawn button clickable  Thanks for the idea.

Like I said, we are still looking at how to implement the game lobbies. TBH I’m interested in giving this game a spin with Photon, but IIRC you can only develop under windows with it.

Very intuative controls and a nice looking game, i really love the depth and coloring of the water (although i did manage to sail off the edge of it!)

Maybe post some screenshots in your 1st post next time too. Shiny looking things will attract more people to your thread, particularly with a game that has a nice style such as this one
