A 3D zelda (adventure of Link) style game.

I want to build a Zelda style 3D adventure action RPG game.

Is this the type of game you would buy and play? Or would I be wasting my time just designing it.

Is it possible to make a indie hit title using only the assets in the asset store here at the unity shop?

That’s insufficient information for me to make a purchasing decision.

The game would have the avaitor use a sword, you would swing it to hit enemies, just like zelda. It would use knock back system. The story is only quick and simple, you only need to find the missing pieces of the key to unlock the master dungeon to rescue the princess.

It would have traps and tricks in it. Puzzles to figure out.

Why start with the question of money? The general high level concept sounds fine. Just work on the game and focus on making a very solid fun game first and foremost.

Congratulations, you are the one millionth person to have this idea!

I’m only joking of course, there have probably been WAY more than a million people who want to make this same idea…

It’s probably in second place just behind “gritty military first person shooter like CoD/Battlefield/CS:GO, but you know, different”

Execution is 100% of a game. I’m pretty sure you can make a flying gorilla fighting vegetables a financially viable product if the execution is flawless.

BTW be careful how you will name it and how much it will resemble the original as Nintendo once again took down +500 games down few days ago including several zelda named or lookalikes

Starting with such an excellent and unique idea like the one you mentioned and combining it with execution at the same level would produce something very interesting indeed.

Noooo… does this mean there are a million zelda style games on the market today?

I believe I can make a zelda game with the same game mechanics as found in zelda. I just cannot produce artwork and would need art from the asset store to make the product.

I’m making a fan game myself. A proof of concept for my studies in Unet. Also to test a small userbase and see how they like it. It’s a good thing I avoided Nintendo. This also convinces me not to use GameJolt.

Study hard friend. You’ll learn 3d art if you put your mind to it.

Absolutely. If a game becomes popular it will receive clones. The more popular it is the more clones there will be.

Not to mention for every one person that successfully makes a clone, there are probably a dozen more who think they can make a clone of that same idea who never do anything with it.

Game ideas are a dime a dozen, and clones are even cheaper.

GameJolt has nothing to do with it. They are simply honoring Nintendo’s request/demand to remove all games infringing on stuff that belongs to them.

They’ve been going after various places for years now. If you make such a thing using their characters etc then keep it private on your hard drive. It’s when you put it online with intent to distribute it as your own work the problem happens.
