A 'big picture' question about Unity and Unity iPhone

Hi all -

I have Unity iPhone (Basic). When creating a new project the project wizard has an empty box where I should select which packages to import. There is no option to specify the location of these packages.

I also purchased a Unity Indie license (pre-req for Unity iPhone). My understanding from these forums, and the fact that I don’t see any place to download it, is that this is a license only purchase - nothing to install.

I’ve also downloaded and installed Unity 2.5 (for which there IS a link to download). The new project wizard does list the available packages (Standard Assets and Toon shading).

These standard assets like Particles, Physic materials, scripts, etc… look like things I (may) need in my iPhone app.

Questions:

  • Is there a way to import the standard asset packages into a Unity iPhone project?
  • I can create a new project in Unity 2.5 and then open it in Unity iPhone. After asking me if I want to ‘upgrade’ the project, a new Unity iPhone project is in fact created with the standard assets. Will the scripts and other stuff work? I get one error in one script when the ‘upgraded’ project is created in Unity iPhone, but everything else looks correct.
  • Have I done something wrong in my installation? Why doesn’t the standard assets package appear when I try to create a new Unity iPhone project?

Apologies if this is really stupid. I’ve written several iPhone apps but this is my first foray into games and Unity and I’m pretty lost right now. Thanks.

Standard assets aren’t “standard” in unity iphone, to have them, download one of the example projects (for unity iphone, even startrooper is fine i think) and simply copy the folder “standard assets” in to the assets folder of your project, and that’s it!

The “Standard Assets” and “Pro Standard Assets” packages are not fully compatible with Unity iPhone which is why they’re not included in the Unity iPhone install. We really should have standard assets packages specific to Unity iPhone and I believe we’ll be rolling at least one out in the not too distant future.
