A few questions about Wings3D and Blender from a total newb.

i have both wings3d and blender installed, i’m a total newbie to making models, and i want to start, as i kind of need to for what i have planned (for instance, a glass tunnel, kinda like one of those waterslides that are totally closed up, leaving you in the dark, or like that chute in portal 2).

however, i can’t find a decent tutorial for wings3d, which seems a lot easier to learn and more user friendly, and i also don’t know what i should ude for what, see, i’ve heard that wings3d doesn’t allow for animations, while blender does, for this project, i will need both animated objects and non-animated objects, so my question in this case is, should i use wings3d for static model making and blender for animated things?, or just stay with blender?, is it possible to make models in wings3d and import them into blender to add animations and refine details?, personally, even wings3d seems incredibly difficult to learn by looking at all it’s options.

and also, i’m a bit confused about something, the programs obviously make a certain kind of file, would unity be supportive of both blender and wings3d output files of choice?, what about both programs models at the same time in game?.

and if i should use wings as well, could someone point me to a good set of tutorials that would still be relevant to the current version?, same goes for blender.

sorry for all the questions, i’m just new to this, and i’m not sure how i should start out.

Very easily done in Blender

Correct. Rather than create a mesh in Wings3D then exporting it to Blender for animation - do it all in Blender.

For Blender, start with cgcookie.com - especially Jonathan Williamson. And search Youtube for channels by BornCG or ianscott888.

thanks for the advice, i was leaning towards blender anyway, it has better functionality, and overall, i like the interface better, i like dark grey colors, though i won’t be able to use that website, my browser just totally breaks down whenever i go there.

You can also find some cgcookie tutorials on youtube - search for blendercookie channel.

And for the “kinda like one of those waterslides that are totally closed up, leaving you in the dark, or like that chute in portal 2).” try these youtube tuts:

Screw Modifier 1
Screw Modifier 2 - sound is not great :frowning:
Screw Modifier 3

Should give you an intro to the Screw Modifier.
