A Game i just started working on.

Hi,

I just started working on a game (1-2 days ago), its going to be a RPG style game. If i continue with it for a long time im going to make it into a MMORPG. For now its just going to be a hobby-project.

Its going to be 3d person, but i havent rly implemented it yet. so just going with first person sofar. Really because i dont wanto watch a mechanic or just a grey block atm ^^

Ive only, and only focused on the terrain, enviroment, added some cheap sound i found. Started making the layout for the “spawn”, where our hero(s) begin their journey. Setting is spooky.
Its going to be a sort of creepy theme. Have something big planned, but dont wanto reveal too much as of now.

So yeah i made a small video walking around, and just wanted some feedback on how i am doing. Good or bad. And i want some pointers as to what i should do/change/add/remove. Thank you. And thanks for the awesome community

-Alex.

Hey I’m going to PM you.

It’s very nice for 1-2 days work. Is this your first project or have you done other things?

Thank you.

Yes my first. Have never done anything like this before. Only played games, not made them :stuck_out_tongue:

Have not done 3D design, not making textures, not animating, not designing…
But im learning lots and very fast, having a great time with it.

I really need to look into making 3d props for my levels, or find someone to help me with it.

The forest looks fantastic how did you get the shadows?

I would advise using different foliage than the ones that come with unity though. I recognize the grass right off the bat. Also, whats inspiring you to build the game? And how will it be different from the others? Or is it just for practice and maybe you will think of what the game is eventually?

Looked at the youtube vid, looked really good. Started on a nice terrain, and all it needs now is an objective  . Also how did you get those trees? I need a tree just like that but couldn’t make it. -_-

The shadows are just from Unity 3d (non-pro), so its not realtime shadows. Lightmapping with Hard shadows.

Yea i figure most do, hehe. Well i dont wanto use alot of $ right off the bat buying all sorts off assets. I have bought some essential that i needed tho… But ill get into swapping out the grass eventually.

A game idea ive had for couple of years now. always wishing someone would make it so i could play it, lol.
“Dammm, why have no one made a game of this yet!”
And i think i will share this enthusiasm with other people aswell…
But, i will not yet say what it is untill ive made some more for my project and things start to look a little bit more like a game.

Im making and also practicing, i know it might be a bad idea using a good idea and starting to make a game of it from the start, not having any experience yet. But im impatient and i dont wanto just make something im not passionate about.

Im probably going to make a new youtube channel and post updates as i go, IF i continue with it, and people seem to want more…

Thank you mate.

The trees i got from the asset store for 5$ i think, Pine Tree collection. Upscaled them alot and i also changed the spread and thickness of the leaves to make them cover more area to block out the sun, giving the forest the feeling i was going for.

If you want more people to follow the development I suggest updating your 1st post with a description of the game and how its different. Once you are comfortable in doing so. It will also help to continually update the 1st post so who ever lands on the thread doesn’t need to scroll down to the very last post for the latest news. Just some advice.

I’ve been looking for some good games to follow development. I hope you continue, good luck.

Looks really great… but scrap the MMO idea…

For a better experience try to add grass as 3d meshes, so that the grass won’t follow your direction

-thanks shadoX, But it needs to be multiplayer :stuck_out_tongue:

-But if its 3d mesh, wont that make the object not affected by wind?

Can you please add a feature for going to first person? I think it would be really refreshing to see an online game that does that.

there is a special rendering called grass :stuck_out_tongue: that adds that wind effect

The lighting in that forest is really good - I love the oppressive shadows and the bright colourful patches where the sun breaks through. It’s not quite realistic as the leaves aren’t quite dense enough to block out that much light, but I prefer how you’ve done it! How did you do the sun beams? They’re very good.

Also, maybe consider putting in some lower shrubs/bushes or rocks, to increase the interest and to break up lines of sight.

-Probably will have a feature for going first person when it comes to that.

-Okay thanx, will look into it

-Thank you for tips! Sun beams are static.
And yea i need bushes and stuff. i just dont have alot of it yet  Thanx.

Btw guys, Im encountering alot of problems in my project, and im finding it hard to figure things out my own just by google, fast that is anyway. So if anyone with some experience wanto help me out a little and chat it up, add me on skype: alxplx

If your not part of it yet, there’s a Skype group called Unity bar and grill that has a ton of users that can help. Send Charlie-Jorge Samways a friend invite and say you want in. My skype name is Luke.

This is nice work so far

The environment/forest looks really amazing. Loving the shadows and lighting

Keep up the good work

Feel free to check me out as well

Sun beams are great.

What are your issues, you can also post them hear on the forum or do you want to PM them only, which is understandable as well?

Environment and trees look great
