A general forum that isn't related to unity?

Perhaps I’m getting the wrong idea. I’m under the impression that a lot of people here are actually friends. Usually, someone says something rather clever and I can already tell who’s going to like his/her comment. I’m not referring to a popularity contest, but more of friendly support for people you believe in.

Point is, it seems members of the community are creating bonds and that would makes sense since we all have at least one thing in common. Perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad thing to let members strengthen these bonds by just having a plain social forum? During the day, I come here and try to help, or ask questions at times. During the evening, I come to read what everyone’s up to, get up to date on the WIPs and I enjoy reading comments from certain members that I like.

Do you think it would hurt the community/Unity’s public image to have such a sub-forum? I get that there are plenty of social forums, but here, we all have Unity in common.

Ok… ok… I just wanted to know what TV shows you guys like to figure out what I’ll watch next…

Watch the UK Life on Mars. (stay far away from the US one, I’d also suggest not watching the sequel/spinoff called Ashes to Ashes)

Also, I don’t think an off topic section is needed. We get off topic enough as it is.

May I suggest slack? Either join the Unity one, or the indie game devs facebook one. Those are much better suited for idle chit chat.

Never heard of it before. I’ll check it out, reading lots of positive feedback. Stumbled on this just now :

As for Life on Mars, I’ll give it a shot! If anybody has more suggestions, toss em in!

Strictly speaking, it’s the unity forums so it’s not strange that everything is unity related. But I do wish there was an off topic forum, as the community here is quite good and full of ‘unique’ people

Edit: Plus, it’d probably help the moderators as the offtopic forum probably needs less moderation, while the general forum will be used less for offtopic posts.

What would you expect from a forum titled “unity”? We’re all in this together!

I can’t even keep up with the current amount of offtopic discussions. While I love the community I don’t think I’d manage to increase my forum participation further. I mean, I already get almost nothing done and the forum plays a role in that ^^.

Well, I feel less guilty when procrastinating and on the unity forums! It feels like it reduces the procrastination’s value by half, just for being on the engine’s related forums.

Somewhere we can have stupid copy the last person’s post games, violent debates about politics, religion and kids asking how to deal with their latest breakup?

I like the idea of socializing with all my friends here. But The Internet.

Poor hippo has a rough enough job keeping us civil and inline as it is.

@Kiwasi

It’ll pretty much be a 1000 Threads on Unreal vs. Lumberyard (or insert engine here), at least when it’s about Unity we can slyly jab them about getting their stuff in order.

Plus, have you ever talked to these guys and gals outside of the Unity forums?? All they do is talk about games, so welcome to the off topic section… You’re in it.!

I’ve been enjoying the low-fi, sci-fi show - the Magicians. I’m sure it’ll be cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons, but it feels like a more mature - more relate-able harry potter.
And House of Cards season 4 just dropped on Netflix. It’s like all the bad things you ever thought about US government - all wrapped up in semi-truthful media-driven political drivel. I hate it and really like it at the same time.

I plead the fifth.

Yeah, we’re not doing off-topic, sorry. Obviously you shouldn’t watch TV shows, you should make games with Unity. Or play them.
