Hey chaps. We’ve been working on a gladiator game for a few years now. It’s a small-world RPG with sword fighting set in Ancient Rome. It’s centered round the arena but you can go round the town and do quests and stuff. What do you think? What kind of stuff would you like to see in the game?
Love the gladiator/roman era type games. Ok, 1st thing i see is opponent isnt on the terrain, offset is wrong. Dont know if your using any, but needs Post Processing effects. Your directional light angle and shadows are nice.
- What about signs of a previous battle (blood stains in the sand, etc.), it looks too “new”.
- Weapons, like to see many weapons to choose from, as back then, you were able to choose any weapon to fight with.
- 1 vs 2, 1 vs animal (like tiger).
- Spectators, a crowd in the stands.
Just a few things i noticed, and a few ideas…best of luck
I too like this type of games
How does the combat system work?, any videos demoing it?
What is there to be done in the town? what sort of quests?
Thanks for the feedback. Will get to work on those
We haven’t released a demo of the combat yet but we’ve got it (mostly) working in the editor. The combat system is realistic so you can’t hack through shields & armour, you have to get around them and target weak-points and when blows land they are mortal or crippling rather than just losing few H.P. Players won’t be able to fight off dozens of enemies. Even one is dangerous. Regarding how its plays it’s most similar to Mount & Blade. Nice and free-form but not too dance-like as with Chivalry and Mordhau. Timing, pacing, distance, and positioning are the vital factors.
Regarding the kind of quests around town. As you’re a gladiator the quests are suited to that. Brute work like murder, beatings, robbery, arson, destruction and defense etc. No fetching cats out of trees, or collecting herbs for the local botanist.
