Would anyone out there care to help me learn about game design? I have 3DS Max 2009 and I have the free version of Unity. I just would like some help building a small little game to get good with making games. mostly the modeling part. and programming because I know nothing of programming and would really apretiate the help =] thank you
There are some tutorials on YouTube that might be a good place to start. Plus the “Lerps” tutorial that comes with Unity is pretty great. When I did it (over a year ago) there were some errors that I never got fixed properly, so don’t be discouraged if the same thing happens to you.
Check out the following sticky thread I have in Unity Support as it offers links to tons of learning material you’ll find useful:
Request: please use more descriptive thread titles. A title like “a little help?” offers no information about what sort of help you’re seeking. That’s bad as folks might skip over your thread when browsing around, so you miss out. It’s also bad as folks might miss important threads when searching based on titles that offer no insight as to what’s being discussed, others miss out. I’ve edited/updated your original post to use a better title. Thanks! ![]()
As well check out the post I’ have on Player Immersion, its more than just that, its also a lot on using stories with game design, and other tidbits that spill from my mind!
For general game design theory and information on all the aspects of game design you can try:
Gamedev.net
Gamasutra
Gamedev.net has many many good articles on theories and principles on game design. The blogs at Gamasutra cover interesting and unique concepts. I think all game developers should check those sites daily. They have lots of good info.
Oh, also, many of the articles on gamedev.net can be old(as far back as the mid to late 90’s) but they still contain very good concepts and theories! Don’t skip over material just because it isn’t cutting edge!
