a Union question

Hi

I looked at the page of Union and I’m a little bit confused.
What they mean by:

It’ require to zip the project folder or the compiled game?

Thanks.

If I understand right, you need to zip up the project folder with the source. That way they can modify your game as needed to recompile for other platforms.

Ok, … but if is it a windows/mac game what would they do. Put they propably some pro effects like realtime shadow in the project? (I’m devlpoing with Unity3d free)

And what is with the copyright? I think if I sell the game via Union then it have some copyright but what is if I use own ways for selling for example on an own website. It’s then require to create an own licence or is there already one?
And if I use textures or sound from the internet in the game have I to look after the copyright of these? Even if I write the sources in the credits?

You don’t send windows mac games there nor iOS, Android or Wii / PS3 / X360 games.

Union is for platforms unity does not support like the Playbook and alike, so you send games that are at least somewhere targeted at it (normally that means iOS or Android which are potentially even a successfull release so far so there is some real incentive to even port it for you and for the platform owner to want it)

If you need Pro features you have to buy pro, if you want to go to ios or android buy those licenses

Ok yeah now I understand the principe of Union.
Thanks.
I’ve heard that I can sell my game on steam is this true?

And at some time I have problems with the sound. I think it’s difficult to find sound with a public domaine licence.

Yes you can sell your games on steam.
But that does not require union, thats a matter of using Unity Pro, integrate steamworks after you are green lighted by Valve (there are teams that already have plugins so you could ask those teams for licensing it if you don’t want to create your own) and thats nearly is it

Be aware your game needs to be top quality for union and steam, ie commercial quality. It’s probably a safe bet that you’ll keep the copyright if the wording of the union page is anything to go by. They couldn’t take it if they tried without a signed contract anyway.

Ok thanks for the answers. I think I’ll take a look there.
But for “mini” projects is there a place to sell them? I mean for a low price 0.5 - 1 dollar?

If its polished and mini then BigFish Games and similar casual portals are an option as well as naturally the mac app store.

but otherwise no, the big commercial platforms only accept commercial quality work so refined, bugfree etc (valve tests the stuff very throughout for steam for example)

Ok, thanks.
I think that the mac app store could be a good solution.
But I’ll take look also at steam.

Steam are very picky  much more so than anywhere else.
