I have been playing around with Unity for 8 years now!
After years mucking about with 3D and Macromedia Director, Unity was a frickin’ God send!
I am on the verge of putting out a project using it - finally - but I have toyed around with this beast for about 8 years already!!
I have looked at the Unreal Engine and CryEngine - but to be honest, I didn’t like 'em. Why? Cos their interfaces suck!
And sometimes when I read abusive comments aimed at the Unity team I get upset. I mean, sure Unity isn’t perfect … nothing is … but for what is offered FREE OF CHARGE these days, well it is simply awesome!
agree I had dabbled in other engines before I sticked with unity and I just love that it’s build around versatility and matches my own preferences of working
I like Unity a lot too. This team takes care of all the back end I don’t want to worry about. The docs are extremely helpful and the official forums connects me to other users with ease. I’m fully aware there are other engines out there, but I’ve never been curious. With Unity, my only limit is myself.
I can’t tell you how much of a difference Unity has made. Torque is where development dreams went to die.
I would build a game, only to find out it was too ambitious for the engine. I would ask for advice only to get a scornful response 3 days later. I would build a project only to downsize over and over because the engine could not handle it on mobile.
I investigated Unity and made the leap. Talk about a soft landing!!!
