Kids are dreaming. Anything wrong with having big dreams? Is the guy behind BEST EVER MMORPG is too big of a dream? Hah! You should have looked at my dreams - when I was a kid I wanted (still would not mind) to be absolute ruler of the world. And I did not want anyone to help me to reach my dream. Plus I had no clue how could I possibly reach it.

1. So this kids have much more realistic dream.
2. They understand that they need helpers.
3. They are willing to work to make their dream happen! Some even help with levels design, not only web site.
4. They do figured out tools part. Unity is the best engine around to start MMORPG with limited budget (networking could be figured later on, if project is successful).

So Tosha - you, and people like you are ignorant bastards with ultimate disregard for children. Picking on children - with general excuse “I’m trying to help!” Do you really? Do you honestly believe that this particular kid have a chance to produce BEST EVER MMORPG, even if he/she would go through platformer tutorial or whatever? No - you just trying to kill the dream! It just like your own kid says that he want to be a prince/princess, and then you would point out that parents have nothing to do with royalty! Same apply if you trying to point out that kid never done any game development(like “Could you show us some examples?”, “Have you done any modeling?” etc and so on).

PS. This is a flame post. If anyone got offended, my apologies, you are probably not an adult

Seriously, your arguments don’t make any sense at all. You’re not squandering a kids dreams by telling him that it’s incredibly hard to achieve and that you should do it one step at a time, starting with something easier.
Likewise, if you teach your kid how to play the Piano, you’d give them advice if they’d want to start with a crazy difficult Chopin piece.

You are mixing up things. If your kid is dreaming about playing crazy difficult Chopin piece, and you start giving him advises to begin with long hours of boring lessons - you are killing his dream.

But if your kid want to play a piano in general, then it is totally different story. It is excellent idea to start guiding, giving advises, starting those long lessons of basic playing until he/she get to Chopin piece.

I’m not. If you would read my first post, I am making fun of not only the noob, but the ways they try to help him and the inevitable troll that comes along and flames him. Why does no none seem to get that THIS POST WAS A JOKE??

I think the issue here is not noob vs giant dreams, or kid vs adult. Its about social interaction and etiquette in communication.

For example, if a 15 year person came here and had excellent social interaction and understood the adult style in communication with others and stated a giant dream of making a game, I’m pretty sure many would not rip into him/her, nor would they break down this persons confidence or dreams. Mainly because the individual presented themselves in a positive manner.

In the same fashion, if a 25 year old person came here and did the opposite to the example above, sloppily expressed his/her giant dream of making a game. People here would tear this person a new one. Not because of age, or scope of dream, simply due to the initial presentation.

Communication is key to portraying to others that you are serious about your endeavors and path to learning what needs to be done. The famous Unity forum example is Forest Johnson. Imagine if he came in, and in the same manner as the original poster used that type of communication (like “O Hai Guyz, Ima programmerz”). Not one person here would have taken him seriously. Would it have meant that it would have been beyond his abilities to learn and grow? Nope.

So perhaps instead of ripping into those who have lack of communication etiquette, we show them the right way to communicate with others. Lead by example is the only way you’ll get through, not by arguing with them.

Well I’m 14, and I think I understand the “adult style” of communication quite well but the truth is, there are a few people who will flame them, just because it makes them feel like they are smarter. They are just as bad as the people they think are so terrible.
