Don’t worry, these posts are mostly incorrect. I published a game through ID@Xbox in 2020 and they never asked for the dev kits back. ID@Xbox also doesn’t require you to be a large company to get them for free, it was just me and my girlfriend self publishing Déjà Vu. You can publish on Creators without paying, although you need to test with a retail Xbox booted in dev mode (and you can test with an older Xbox One since Series X is backwards compatible). I wrote about my experience in this thread. Overall, it’s unfortunate it costs money for a Unity Pro license to do console builds now, but you easily make that money back. I made a simple 2D puzzle game that was sold for $10 and still sold hundreds of copies on the first day just to achievement hunters. At this point, Xbox is about 90% of my game’s sales. Plus, if you’re lucky, sometimes the console companies will give you a Preferred Platform Key so you don’t need Unity Pro for that console.
