Basically they give a few concepts, we (the artists) model them, they buy it, and we still have the rights to sell it over the assetstore.
My question is the “they buy it” part, does that mean they simply buy the asset from the assetstore, or they pay a bigger amount? Anyone has more information about this?
Looks like they will just buy it at the regular price that you have it set in the asset store (if they like it). Seems incredible to me, you might make an asset that no one would want and then they dont even buy it.
Yes, you’re supposed to price it at the price you want to sell it at. If it’s reasonable, and they like it, they’ll buy it.
And then afterwards, whether they buy it or not, it’ll be available on the asset store for everyone to buy.
Yes, you could end up creating assets that nobody wants. But you could end up with a real money-maker on your hands, and have you model end up in a popular game.
I don’t recommend that people mortgage their houses on the bet that it’ll sell… But for hobbyists looking to make a buck, I think this is a great opportunity.
inXile will pay credit creators of winning assets, which additionally will be made for sale on the Asset Store to the public. All assets submitted to the contest are considered for inclusion and sale on the asset store, by the way– so not being selected for Wasteland2 doesn’t exclude you from selling it on the store. So either way, you can make money.
Yep, my question is whether they pay the assetstore price, or more. For example I make a wreck car, price it for 15$, I doubt it will sell more than a few times a month (and I am being generous). I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but unless the Wasteland Team pays more for it initially (lets say 10 times the base price), then it isn’t really worth it, maybe only for the credits
I mean instead of a wreck car, you could model an asset pack that is more popular, or worth more.
Yep, again, I don’t want to sound like some whiner. It is a fair offer. I am just wondering.
This is just an optional and clever approach, one I might do in a couple of years. We’ve already discussed this stuff our end. Basically its a win-win, especially if you’re wanting to expand portfolio. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement in the right hands. If those aren’t your hands, then move along, you’re obviously not the droids they’re looking for.
Sure, I can model. I have experience with modeling on Maya since it was Alias’s, how long? 8+ years now?! Dunno…
I just can’t see me selling a good piece of art for just a few bucks, not worth it. There are many good assets outside of Asset Store for $50 bucks, that is much cheaper than working 2 months on a character by myself so that is why I buy em… But selling my work for so cheap? Never…
Unless are easy to do models like simple sculpted rocks.
Only good quality art in Asset Store are some packs from Michael O… No good artist will sell good character or complex building models for just 100 bucks.
I don’t know a single jobless good artist these days.
The senior character artist of Mass Effect 3 is an average guy doing his work from his very shy office here in Sao Paulo and sometimes from home and ppl don’t stop chasing him to make more and more assets. I mean, good artists proly don’t need this kind of contest and inXile will be flooded with kid’s crap.
